- Is my appliance registered?
It’s mandatory for manufacturers and importers of gas appliances, hoses and gas regulators to have a verification permit in order to sell products in South Africa. To find out if your appliance is registered on the safe appliance database click the link below:
- Why is it important to be issued with a gas Certificate of Conformity (CoC)?
When you are issued with a CoC you are assured that:
- the finished work has been tested adequately and is safe for use
- the gas practitioner is qualified to perform the work
- you are compliant with the South African legislation

- Why does the price of gas change?
Just like petrol, diesel and paraffin, liquid petroleum gas is a liquid fuel and is subject to monthly price adjustments. These adjustments are determined by the Department of Energy and are based on both local and international factors. South Africa has 54 LPG zones and the price is slightly different in each zone.
- What size should my gas bottle be?
For home use we recommend a 9kg or 19kg gas cylinder. You can purchase this from our online store. For commercial use this would be dependant on what the gas is being used for and what gas you are using. If you are unsure, contact us.
- How can I detect a gas leak?
Most leaks are caused by faulty regulator fittings, defective rubber hoses and by not handling appliances properly. The easiest way to detect a leak is by smell. LPG does not have an odour and is non-toxic, the smell you get is an additive that’s added to the gas to help detect leaks.
If you think your gas appliance is leaking do this:
- Open the gas cylinder but keep the appliance knob closed to create pressure in the system
- Use a sponge or brush to apply soapy water to the valve area
- If there is a leak, bubbles will form at the point where the leakage is
If your cylinder leaks, close it and disconnect it from any appliance and replace it immediately.
- How do I know when my gas cylinder is empty?
You can do a simple test by pouring hot water down the side of the cylinder. A line of condensation will appear down the side of the bottle, if this line does not appear run your hand down the side of the bottle and if you don’t feel a change in temperature the cylinder is empty and you need to exchange it for another gas cylinder. The surface should feel colder where there is gas.
