Most leaks are caused by faulty regulator fittings, defective rubber hoses and by not handling appliances properly. The easiest way to detect a leak is by smell. LPG does not have an odour and is non-toxic, the smell you get is an additive that’s added to the gas to help detect leaks.
If you think your gas appliance is leaking do this:
- Open the gas cylinder but keep the appliance knob closed to create pressure in the system
- Use a sponge or brush to apply soapy water to the valve area
- If there is a leak, bubbles will form at the point where the leakage is
If your cylinder leaks, close it and disconnect it from any appliance and replace it immediately.
